Helen Galliher
Mrs. Helen Eunice Brown Galliher, 83, passed away peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday, March 8th, 2019. She was born November 7th, 1935 to Charles Spurgeon Brown, Sr. and Edna Sloan Brown of Olin, N.C. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for most of her life and was baptized at an early age by Rev. Grady White in a fish pond in Northern Iredell County. The Olin schoolhouse is where she attended first through sixth grade, she then moved on to Harmony High School where she graduated in 1954. After graduation she was employed by Wachovia in Winston-Salem, then Thomas & Howard in Statesville, and then the Iredell County Health Department, retiring in 1997 to become The Best stay at home grandma ever. Our beloved wife, mom and mamaw will be sorely missed. She loved her Lord, family, and church with all her heart. She also loved all things Billy Graham, Dean Smith, Carolina Basketball and Appalachian State University. Her Sinful Potatoes, Sweet Potato & Chicken Casseroles, Strawberry Cakes, and Sweet Tea were second to none. We are blessed and better for knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: W. Boyce Brown, Oleta B. Holland, Hilda Charlene Brown, Audrey Jean B. Waters, Thelma B. Dearman. Lucille B. Gaither, and brothers-in-law, Dr. F. Glen Gaither, Sr. and O. A. Dearman.
On July 4, 1960, she married Mr. Vance Davis Galliher who survives. Also surviving are a son, Van Douglas Galliher (Lisa) of Olin, a daughter, Vicki Denise Galliher of Fairfax, Va., a sister, Ann B. York (Calvin) of Olin and a brother, Charles S. Brown, Jr. (Joy) of Mt. Olive, N.C. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Helen Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, and two grandchildren: Hunter Grant Galliher and Haley Rhys Galliher.
Services celebrating Helen’s life will be conducted t 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Childress and Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A private family interment will be at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
