Hazel Eloise Bass Odom, 90 of Statesville went to her heavenly home on Tuesday April 18, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Iredell County on March 26, 1933, to the late Fletcher James Bass and Lillian Chambers Bass. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Odom in 2021. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Henry, June, Tom and Paul Bass, and five sisters, Aileen Bass, Mildred Henderson, Polly Moose, Drusilla Haithcox and Dorothy Carson.
Hazel was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. She was passionate about serving others. Being outdoors, cutting her grass, and tending her roses and other flowers brought her a great deal of pleasure. It was said that she had a green arm because a green thumb just wasn’t enough. More than anything she loved her family and especially cooking Sunday dinner for Family Day after church each week.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Lisa Buhrmaster (Marc), Trena Warren (Rodger), two sons, Ricky Odom, Eddie Odom (Debbie), nine grandchildren, Johannah Saruse (Caleb), Marion Buhrmaster, Scarlett Jones, Zeke Odom (Mandy), TJ Weber, Hannah Warren, Matt Warren, Hunter Brooks, Chelsie Burns, four great-grandchildren, Titan Jones, Emerson Odom, Parker Odom, Carli Saruse, two sisters, Peggy Keller, Betty Lou Honeycutt, a brother, Jack Bass, and her fur baby, Daisy Duke.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 24, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Glaser officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
