Hazel Barkley

Hazel Adams Barkley, 85, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, January 04, 2011, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Barkley was born June 7, 1925, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Clyde Roscoe Adams and Ida Loyd Adams. She attended Iredell County Schools and on December 6, 1947, was married to Gilbert Barkley who preceded her in death on December 18, 2000. Mrs. Barkley was employed with Statesville City Schools having worked in the cafeteria at N.B. Mills School. She was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Barkley was also preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Adams along with one sister, Thelma Gray Adams Miller. Mrs. Barkley is survived by one daughter, Glenda B. Bowman (Eddie); one grandson, Bryan E. Bowman (Renee); one granddaughter, LeAnn B. Lee; two great-grandsons, Kendall L. Bowman and Tristan J. Lee; one great-granddaughter, Brayden M. Bowman; one brother, Charlie L. Adams (Versie), all of Statesville, along with two sister-in-laws, Ruth Barkley of Statesville and Ruth B. McGee of Salisbury. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Thursday, January 6, 2010 in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Ron Daub officiating. The family will be assembled at the home of Eddie and Glenda Bowman, 566 Mills Garden Road, Statesville.
