Gloria Gertrude (DeMott) Harmon

Mrs. Gloria Gertrude DeMott Harmon, 89, of Statesville, was taken home on Friday, April 22, 2016 . She was born October 10, 1926 in Hempstead, New York, to the late Eunice Gertrude (Storke) DeMott and William James DeMott, internationally acclaimed equestrians and bare-back riders with Buffalo Bill and the Ringling Brothers Circuses. She was preceded in death by Archie Harmon, Jr., her husband of 64 and one half years. She is survived by her five children: Gloria Jane Harmon, E. Elaine Krajewski and her husband, Kenneth Krajewski, Kathryn Rebecca Harmon and her husband, Thomas M. Hickey, Aaron DeMott Harmon and his wife, Betty Harmon and Archie David Harmon and his wife, Harumi Shirley Harmon. Gloria is also survived by five grandchildren: Rebecca Ann LaMarr, Daniel Wayne Wright, Jonathan Thomas Harmon, Joseph Luke Harmon and Spencer Win Harmon and three great grandchildren, Emily Carol Krajewski, Kenneth John LaMarr and William DeMott Wright. Gloria retired 20 years ago from the Department Of The Navy where she served as a Systems Financial Analyst for defense contracting. She also worked as an engineer for Bendix Corporation based in Baltimore, Maryland. During retirement, she enjoyed Bible studies at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, N.C. She also enjoyed reading literature and participating with the Wine and Spine book club, listening to classical music and cruising with Holland America Lines. Services celebrating Gloria’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11 :00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with Pastor Dieter Punt officiating. Burial will follow at 2 :00  P.M. at the National Cemetery in Salisbury where she will be laid to rest in peace with her husband.
