[caption id="attachment_7032" align="alignleft" width="122" caption="Georgina Knox Furches"][/caption] Georgina Knox Furches, 91, passed away peacefully January 24, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She had suffered from Alzheimer's Dementia for many years. Born Dec. 11, 1922 in Wallsend, England, she was the daughter of the late John Alfred and Mary Chapman Knox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank William Furches, her son, Joseph Knox Furches, her brother, Joseph Chapman Knox and her sister, Molly Knox Walker. She graduated from Catholic schools in Wallsend. After finishing school, she joined the Women's Royal Naval Service in World War II. She was stationed in St. Andrews, Scotland where she met her husband, Frank Furches, who was a U.S. Army Lieutenant, also stationed in Scotland. They were married in Wallsend, England on April 18, 1945 and returned to make their home in Statesville, NC after World War II ended. She spent the next portion of her life being a devoted and loving wife and mother of two boys and three girls. She was primarily a homemaker but did work for Spainhour's in downtown Statesville for about 10 years. Georgina loved to cook and was a marvelous baker as well. She also enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, oil painting, rughooking and keeping a clean house. She was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Church since 1946 and faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. Among the positions she held in her church were: principal of the C.C.D. (Sunday School), lay reader, member of the parish council and church sacristan. She loved her church and her Catholic faith was very important to her. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Frank William "Bill" Jr. Furches (Wanda) of Statesville, Georgina (Ena) Moose (Bill), Margaret (Meg) Eggleton (Burke) of Taylorsville and Jane Furches, also of Statesville; grandchildren F.W.III (Bill) and Joseph (Joe) Furches, Amanda Welch (Jon), Katherine (Katie) Moose all of Statesville and Mary (Molly) Eggleton and David Moose, both of New York City, N.Y. ; step-grandchildren Anne Ross (Carey) of New Hampshire, Joe Eggleton (Nikki) of Connecticut and Ed Eggleton of California; great-grandchildren Lauren Turbeville and Knox Welch of Statesville, Nathan, Emilia, and Katherine Ross of New Hampshire and Harper Eggleton of Connecticut. She is also survived by a niece and nephew in America and four nephews and a niece in England and their children and grandchildren. A graveside service to celebrate Georgina's life will be held 3:00 pm Monday, January 27, 2014 in Oakwood Cemetery with Deacon Matthew Reilly officiating. The family will visit with friends 1:00 until 2:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville or to the charity of your choice.
