George Edward Young

Mr. George Edward Young, 83, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Young was born October 8, 1932, in Baltimore, MD and was the son of the late Harry Augustus Young and Esther Marie Mills Young.  He was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  On June 21, 1954, he married Lois Marie Johnson Young, who preceded him in death on November 12, 2012. He was a member of South River Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Class Sunday School. Mr. Young was a lieutenant forensic detective with the police department in Sparrows Point, MD and retired following 30 years of service.  He also worked in the Baltimore County Sheriff Department, retiring in 1984. In addition to his wife, Mr. Young was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lloyd Young. He is survived by a nephew, Ken Hechmer and wife Teri and special friends, Dr. Michael and Pam Miller, Shawna Myers, Grace & Keith Turner, Sandy & Jim Campbell, Bonnie & Donald Morrow, Kristen O’Keefe, and the residents and staff of Jurney’s Assisted Living. Funeral services for Mr. Young will be conducted 12:30 PM Saturday in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Chris Thompson officiating.  Burial will follow in South River Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail.  Memorials may be made to Jurney’s Assisted Living, 1942 Van Haven Dr., Statesville, NC 28625.
