Mr. George Wesley Lamberth, 76, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Lamberth was born in Iredell County on February 22, 1937 and he was the son of the late Everette Lee Lamberth and Rachel Kathryn Bost Lamberth. He was a graduate of Iredell County schools and in 1960 he married Peggy Compton Lamberth, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, 804 Group Strategic Air Command at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, GA. He was a mechanic with the 2 Field Maintenance, 2 Bomb Wing with a rank of Airman 2 Class. Mr. Lamberth worked with the Statesville Fire Department and retired as a Captain after 30 years of service. He had extensive training in fire safety and suppression from N.C. State and Mitchell Community College. He was a certified Fire Instructor for the state of North Carolina and he educated many firemen throughout the state. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Everette Carl Lamberth. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Compton Lamberth of the home, two sons, Johnny Richardson Lamberth (Sarah) of Charlotte and Wesley Blaine Lamberth (Shirley) of Statesville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Brenna, Kendra, and Joshua Lamberth, all of Statesville along with two brothers, Donald Eugene Lamberth (Peggy) and James Gary Lamberth (Shelia), all of Statesville. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Lorene Lamberth of Myrtle Beach, SC. A graveside funeral service for Mr. Lamberth will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, October 31 in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Beau Mills officiating.
