George Harvey Gregory, 74, of Statesville passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born May 31, 1938 in Wilkes County and was the son of the late Roosevelt Franklin Gregory, Sr., and Drussia Mahaffey Gregory. Mr. Gregory was a graduate of Wilkes County Schools and on October 27, 1957 he was married to Laura Ann Sprinkle Gregory, who survives. For 25 years he was owner and operated a general store named Gregory's and then ventured to a business of construction for ten years. He always had a joke to share to make people laugh and he never met a stranger. He also enjoyed playing golf and spoiling his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Thomas, O.C. Gregory, R.F. Gregory, Jr., and Billy Joe, three sisters, Emma Lea Lunsford, Phyllis Long and Pheloy Childress. Mr. Gregory is survived by two sons, Curt Gregory (Teresa) and Kent Gregory (Meghan), both of Statesville, a daughter, Amanda Kosner (Jimmy), of Havelock, NC, seven grandchildren, Curtis Gregory, Laura Jane Gregory, Kelly Gregory, Travis Kosner, Kevin Kosner, Candace Reeves and Amber Keller. He is further survived by three great-grandchildren and one sister, Doris Spillman (Wayne), of Hamptonville. A funeral service for Mr. Gregory will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, May 3, 2013 at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Curtis Gregory, Junior Gregory, Tim Johnson, Tony Johnson, Gary Lunsford, Mark Childress, John Spillman and Johnny Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis and Kevin Kosner. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Rocky Hill Baptist Church, 823 Mountain View Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
