Gary Wayne Gettys, 60, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Iredell County on March 8, 1956 to Billy Brown Gettys, who survives and the late Nellie Loftin Gettys. Gary was a graduate of South Iredell High School and was of Baptist Faith. He was an independent truck driver. He was married to Ann Galliher Gettys on March 6, 1999 and they enjoyed over 17 years of marriage before his passing. Gary loved being at home and working with his tractor around the homestead. He had a big heart for people and animals. Gary found great joy ministering to families in the Appalachian Coal Fields. Along with his mother, Nellie, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Gettys. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ann; a son, Brandon Lee Gettys; a sister, Barbara Childers (Don); and his father, Bill Gettys, all of Statesville. He is further survived by his loving dogs, Hope, Rowdy, and Willie. Willie served as his traveling companion on his trucking trips for over five years. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Thursday, October 20, 2016 at South River Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Chris Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
