Frances Odena Crater Wallace, 91, of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at her home. Odena was born in Iredell County on November 18, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Lemily Roy Crater and Mamie Rash Crater.
Odena was a graduate of Union Grove High School and on April 26, 1947 she married John Wilson Wallace, Jr and together they shared 60 years of marriage until his passing on January 3, 2008. She was a long-time member of First ARP Church.
Odena retired from Brenton Textiles where she worked as a seamstress.
Odena loved her church and church family. She was a member of the Walker Bible Class which gave her such a blessing. She also loved being outdoors. She enjoyed planting flowers and vegetable garden which she would share with family and friends. She also enjoyed needle craft and crocheting. But her real joy came for the love she had for animals. She was especially fond of her cats and dogs which brought her much joy in life.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Edward Crater and a niece Kathleen Lee-Stevens.
Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Linda Wallace of Statesville and a son, Jim C. Wallace (Glenda) of Charlotte along with two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Lee and two nieces, Sandi Lee, both of Matthews and Jamie Lee-Thompson (Bill) of Raleigh and one nephew Eddie Crater, Jr. of Olin.
A graveside funeral service for Odena Wallace will be conducted at 2:30 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Phil McCoy officiating and special music provided by Ulysses Long. The family will speak with friends following the service.
