Mr. Flint Aughtry Norwood, 86, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Norwood was born in Columbia, SC on March 18, 1927 and he was the son of the late Claud Marion Norwood and Charlotte Campbell Norwood. Mr. Norwood was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII. On June 18, 1955, he married Elizabeth Laughridge Norwood, who survives. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he was a Lay reader. Mr. Norwood loved his books, music, and gardening, especially the propagation of camellias and daylilies, and of course, his cats. Mr. Norwood received his BA in German Literature from the University of South Carolina and also graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Library Science. He was a retired Director of the Iredell County Public Library. He was very involved in the Statesville community. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the McDowell Music Club, the Statesville-Iredell Concert Association and the Statesville Little Theater. In addition to his wife, Mr. Norwood is survived by one daughter, Margaret Louise Norwood (Steven C. McLester) of Charlotte and one brother, Grover M. Norwood of Biloxi, MS. Funeral services for Mr. Norwood will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Brad Mullis officiating. Burial will be at 4:00 pm in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 801 Henkel Rd. Statesville, NC 28677.
