Flake R. Conner, Jr. entered Heaven and into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 21.
He passed away peacefully at his Statesville home surrounded by loved ones. He was 68 years old. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Moore Conner; his son Michael Lee Conner and his wife Julia of Charlotte; and his daughter Tonya Conner Reeves, her husband Chris, and precious grandson Benjamin Conner Reeves, who was "Grandpa's little buddy" – of Statesville. He is also survived by his sister Crystal Johnson of Statesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents Flake R. Conner, Sr. and Minnie Lee Myers Conner. He graduated from Cool Springs School in 1965. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany. He was employed by Dana Industries as a machine operator for 28 years, retiring in 2004 and working for Iredell Memorial Hospital for 3 years. He was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church where he served on the missions committee. He had the privilege of going on 2 mission trips, one to Bolivia, South America, and one to Nova Scotia, Canada.
Flake loved his family, friends, and church family and will be missed by all but they take comfort in knowing that absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Visitation will be at East Side Baptist Church on Saturday from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. There will be a funeral service at East Side Baptist Church on Sunday at 3:00 pm celebrating Flake's life and remembering God's promises, with his pastor Johnny Bolin and lifelong friend Terry Tevepaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to East Side Baptist Church. Nicholson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and taking care of the family.
