Mrs. Faye Laura Nicholson Kahl, 82, of Union Grove, N.C. passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012, at her home on the same hill within a few hundred feet from where she was born, surrounded by family. Mrs. Kahl was born June 27, 1929 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Willie L. and Edna Jarvis Nicholson. She attended Iredell County schools and on August 21, 1948 she married Albert Kahl, who preceded her in death on January 24, 1981. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Kahl enjoyed crafts and she made rag dolls to pay to send her son to college following the death of her husband. She had been active in the Democratic Party when her health was good. She loved her pets and all animals. She was especially fond of her little dog of 14 years, Baby, who never left her side. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kahl was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey and Junior Nicholson and a half-brother, Roy Love. She is survived by one son, Former NC State Rep. J. Wayne Kahl of the home, two sisters, Estelle Nicholson of Union Grove and Maryree Bongiorno and husband Joe of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by nephews, Philip S. Nicholson and Danny Lee Nicholson both of Union Grove, Anthony, Kevin and Joey Bongiorno of Baltimore, MD and David Nicholson. She is further survived by nieces Judy Marzine and Jane Carson and great niece Laura Nicholson Procaccianti of R.I. along with numerous cousins. Funeral services for Mrs. Kahl will be conducted 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 pm in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church fellowship hall. The family would like to thank everyone for all that they did for her while she was sick, including her pastor, Rev. Don Myers and members of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church along with the doctors, Dr. Pam Sholar, Dr. Elnaggar, and Lisa Mathis and the staff on the 4 floor of Iredell Memorial Hospital. They would also like to thank two of her lifelong friends, Mary G. Johnson and Faye Williams, both of Union Grove along with her caregivers, Mary Chatham and Angela Goodin.
