Evelyn Gertrude Stewart Robinson was received into the arms of her Lord on February 27, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Robinson was born at 601 Davie Ave. in Statesville, NC on March 13, 1921 to Mary Evelyn Johnson Stewart and M. Barton Stewart. She was a civil service employee for 33 � years having worked with the US Senate, Architect of the Capital, Commerce Department, USAF at Andrews AFB, Maryland, Scott AFB, IL, Clark AFB, Philippines, Mountain Home AFB, Seymore Johnson AFB, VA in Salisbury, Myrtle Beach AFB, SC, where she retired. She was employed at Iredell Memorial Hospital for 13 years in the Insurance Department retiring at 71 years old. Mrs. Robinson attended Appalachian State Teachers College until 1940 before leaving to work in Washington, DC in 1941. She graduated with a BA in Social Studies from the University of the Philippines in 1962 and did post graduate studies at the University of So. Idaho. She always loved to learn something new. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Jim Robinson in 2008, her mother, Mary Evelyn Johnson Stewart in May of 1935 and her father, Marian Barton Stewart, Dec. 11, 1984. She is survived by her only child, Peggy Evelyn Robinson Snipes, who she cherished and loved dearly. Peggy was a devoted and loving caretaker to her parents in their final years. She is further survived by five grandchildren, James (Angela) Robinson, Rodney (Cindy) Robinson, Joseph "Joey" Robinson, Christie (Kevin) Kestler, David (Christy) Robinson. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild. She is also survived by siblings, Marian Barton Stewart, Jr (her brother passed away 3 hours after she did), Betty Lucinda Bell of Seattle, WA, Ross Bell Taylor (Sally) of Huntington, MD. She celebrated life by her love and devotion to her God, Family and Country. She was a member of Catawba Chapter 124 Order of the Eastern Star. She held the office of Worthy Matron twice along with many other offices. She was very devoted to her Chapter and loved her brothers and sisters dearly and with an open heart. She loved her church, Sharon Lutheran and taught Sunday School for many years, serving in the church choir, program chairman for Christmas programs and on the Church Council for 4 terms. She loved creating church banners. In her lifetime she visited all 50 states enjoying the beauty of her country. She will be greatly missed by her loving daughter, family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Sharon Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
