Mr. Escar Lee Lackey, 85, of Statesville, passed away, Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Statesville Place. Mr. Lackey was born September 24, 1927 in Alexander County and was the son of the late Charlie Carson Lackey and Maybelle Thomas Lackey. He attended Stony Point Schools and on December 19, 1947 was married to the late Betty Louise Teague Lackey, who passed away May 28, 2013. Earlier in his life, Escar was a member, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Fairview Baptist Church, before later joining Western Avenue Baptist Church. He worked for Public Service Gas Company as a Supervisor before retiring after 37 � years. He was an Ancient, Free and Accepted Mason, a Scottish Rite and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #27. Mr. Lackey is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Lackey (Sylvia) of Statesville, Rick Lackey (Pam) of Wilson, NC, one daughter, Donna L. Haithcox (Doug) of Jensen Beach, FL, four granddaughters, Cameron M. Heck (Phillip), Melanie L. Raynor (Kent), Cinda E. Simmons (Micheal), Erin L. Haithcox, four great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Escar was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and M.A. Lackey, two sisters, Ruth Johnson, Louise L. Stevenson and one grandson, Christopher Matthew Lackey. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Mack Mathis officiating at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 1:45-2:45 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Jim E. Wilson, Doug Haithcox, Chris Buckner, Phillip Heck, Keith Ziglar and Kent Raynor.
