Ella Layne

Ella Mae Wallace Layne, 90, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Layne was born April 3, 1924, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Cynthia Gibson Sells. She attended Iredell County schools and she was married to Herman Fuller Layne, who preceded her in death in 1994. Mrs. Layne was retired from Carolina Mills and she was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Layne and numerous brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, David Layne of Statesville and Cecil Layne (Emma) of Hiddenite along with one daughter, Brenda L. Matheson (Curtis) of Statesville. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Tina M. Keller and Kimberly Matheson, both of Statesville, and three grandsons, Tony Layne of Claremont, Preston Layne of Statesville, and Shawn Layne of Denver, NC and one daughter-in-law, Kathy Layne of Taylorsville. Eight great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Layne will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday April 8, 2014, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
