Elizabeth (Winters) Freeze

Frances Elizabeth Winters Freeze, 94, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, in the home where she was born.  She was the youngest of eight children.  Mrs. Freeze was born March 22, 1922, to the late James Franklin Winters and Rosa McRee Winters.  From a young age, she worked on the family farm and continued throughout her life.  On May 17, 1942, she married Ira V. Freeze who preceded her in death on September 25, 2009. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont and was an honor graduate of Sharon High School.  She worked for a number of years in the textile industry.  During her retirement years, she and Ira loved to travel.  Until her health declined, she enjoyed playing cards with a group of friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry A. Freeze along with her siblings, Nellie W. Stevenson, Rev. Robert W. Winters, James P. Winters, Ruth W. LaMott, Mary W. Davis, Frank G. Winters, and John V. Winters. She is survived by four children, Marilyn F. Teague (Carl), Larry E. Freeze (Pat), Sybil F. Stafford (David), and Shelia F. Burger (Dale) along with a daughter-in-law, Doris E. Freeze.  She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Freeze will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, West Main Street in Claremont with the Rev. Dr. Gary Haddock and Rev. Paul Christ officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.  The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the funeral service with the family assembled in the St. Mark’s Family Life Center for visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 550, Claremont, NC 28610.
