Eleanor House

Eleanor Thomas House, 92, of Statesville, NC passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville. Mrs. House was born August 5, 1921 in Louisburg, NC to Edgar Thomas, Sr. and Ida Hill Thomas. She was the second oldest of nine children. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Louisburg, NC. She graduated from Morning Side High School in Statesville, NC and Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC. She earned a B.A. Degree in English and taught for 32 years. Eleanor was married to James E. House, who survives for 60 years and 3 months. They joined Calvary Presbyterian Church of Statesville, NC. Eleanor lived in this community for 77 years. She enjoyed calling Statesville home. Even though she had no biological children, she was a mother to many students. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sisters, Mozella T. Harris of Silver Spring, MD; Hazel T. Massey, Hope Mills, NC, Rosalyn T. Cephas of Hyattsville, MD; a brother, Rolland W. Thomas, Autryville, NC; sister-in-laws, Emma Thomas of Richmond, VA, Allie Thomas of Autryville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Calvary Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tim Bates officiating. A private family burial will be held before the funeral service in Belmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church.
