Mr. Elbert Hoke Richardson, 72, of Troutman, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home. Elbert was born April 13, 1943 in Orlando, FL and was the son of the late Hoke Smith Richardson and Edith Clark Richardson. He was a 1961 graduate of Apopka High School and graduated from University of Florida and graduate school of banking at LSU. On February 14, 1981, he was married to Joyce Bowden Richardson, who survives of the home and was a member of Peninsula Baptist Church. Elbert was a bank founder, bank executive, civic leader and longtime former mayor of Troutman (1999-2015). He described his professional life as a play with three acts; an employee with a large bank; the president of a smaller one; and as the leader of his adopted home. His list of accomplishments with the Town of Troutman are lengthy and comprehensive. He helped move such grand projects as the J. Hoyt Hayes Troutman Library, the Troutman ESC Park and the Richardson Greenway from the town’s wish list to amenities now enjoyed by residents. Richardson’s tenure as mayor is second only to that of Loren Powell in the 111- year history of the town. Over the years, he served on several boards and as President or Treasurer of the following: Statesville City Club, Statesville Rotary Club, Piedmont Boy Scouts, United Way of Statesville (Campaign Chairman), Statesville Chamber of Commerce as Vice President of Revitalized Downton Statesville Committee, just to name a few. In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by three sons, Douglas Elbert Richardson, Randall Scott Richardson, Jarrod Hoke Richardson, one granddaughter, Katherine Richardson Hardee, and four grandsons, Nicholas Richardson, Michael Richardson, Logan Richardson and Gavin Richardson. He is also survived by two brothers, Ret. Col. Ronald Ray Richardson of Kansas and Gerald Day Richardson (Amanda) of Florida. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Peninsula Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Martins Cemetery.
