Mr. Doyle Eugene (Gene) Shoemake, 60, of Statesville, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born November 17, 1954 in Blowing Rock, N.C. he was a son of the late Doyle Shoemake and Evelyn Shoemake who survives. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He graduated from Watauga High School in 1974 and was a member of the high school band and was the school year-book photographer. He also graduated from Catawba Community College and attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and CCCTI of Hickory. He was affiliated with the UNC Chapter of TKE fraternity and was an instructor at the Appalachian French Swiss Ski College. He was also a member of the Statesville Lodge # 27 A.F. & A.M. While serving in the U. S. Army, he was a member of the Army Ski Team and received the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. He was a Specialist Four. Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson Shoemake of the home, 3 step children: Tracey Dry, Nancy Mims and Troy Humphries, 7 grandchildren: Kyle Drye, Tabatha Klossin, Ashley Humphries, Katie Humphries, Troy Humphries, Jr., Owen Humphries and Jon Mims and 3 great grandchildren: Leah Klossin, Lily Dry and Jaxton Dry. Also surviving are brothers: Rick Shoemake and wife, Jimmie Lou of Boone, N.C., and Joseph Shoemake and wife, Karen of Blowing Rock, N.C., and sisters, Michele Harris and husband, David of Denver, Colorado and Emma L. Shoemake of Lenoir, N.C. Services celebrating Gene’s life will be conducted at 6 :00 on Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Beau Mills officiating. Masonic Rites will be presented at the church. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Salisbury on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with full military rites. Condolences may be sent online to the family to
