Dorothy Albea Davidson, 86, of Statesville, passed away, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Davidson was born April 20, 1927 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Clyde Albea, Sr. and Lorene Kerr Albea. She was a graduate of Statesville High School, class of 1944 and on June 4, 1944 was married at Boulevard Methodist Church in Statesville to the late John Winfield Davidson, Sr., who passed away March 15, 1995. She worked for J.C. Penney Distribution Center for 32 years and formerly worked at Efirds Department Store in Downtown Statesville. She was a member of First A.R.P. Church, where she was honored with a life membership pin from the women of the church, sang in the choir, had been a member of the Wilma Mills Sunday School Class and a member of Ladies Circle. Dorothy enjoyed working crossword puzzles, working in her yard with her flowers and her inside plants. She had a "green thumb". She loved being outside, whether it was sitting on her porch or going to the beach and hunting for seashells. She was an animal lover, especially feeding and watching birds. She loved to cook, trying new recipes and always doing things for others. She was a wonderful "Granny", who loved her grandchildren and was so proud of them. In addition to her husband of 51 years and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Johnson and husband, Spencer, brother-in-law, Archie "Jimmy" A. Davidson and wife, Alma Ann and a sister-in-law, Betty D. Hilderbrand and husband, Sidney. Mrs. Davidson is survived by one daughter, Ann D. Faulk (Amos) of Statesville and Davenport, FL, two sons, Paul Lee Davidson (Sandra) of Troutman, Johnny W. Davidson, Jr. (Cheryl) of Rutherford College, NC; five grandchildren, Amy Beth Faulk, Amber Dawn Faulk, Christy Davidson Trimmer (Dan), Lt. William Lee Davidson (Amanda), Andrew Davidson (Erin); step-granddaughter, Anita Davidson, one brother, Clyde "Sonny" Albea, Jr. (Jean) of Statesville, and one brother-in-law, Dorman Davidson (Pam) of Mandeville, LA. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery with Chaplain Lynn Kunkle officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at Nicholson Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625, with special thanks to Lynn Brown with Palliative Care, Lynn Kunkle, Chaplain at Gordon Hospice House and Karen Luther, Social Worker, and all the staff at the Gordon Hospice House.
