Dorothy Bass Carson, 87, of Statesville, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on April 12, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher Bass and Lillian Chambers Bass. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and formerly was a hospital volunteer at Iredell Memorial and Davis Hospitals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Flake Allen Carson, two grandchildren, Jeremiah Love and Kristy Carson and eight siblings. Survivors include two sons, Steve Carson (Doris) and Michael Carson (Debbie) all of Statesville, two daughters, Jane Hix (Richard) of Olin and Vickie Cheek of Statesville. Also surviving are grandchildren: Paxton and Matthew Hix, Nichola Gaither, Jamison Carson, Stephanie Faw, Heather Hassler, Jennifer Hedrick and Hollie Love along with 11 great grandchildren. Additional survivors include a brother, Jack Bass of Statesville and three sisters: Hazel Odom, Betty Lou Honeycutt and Peggy Keller all of Statesville. Services celebrating Dorothy’s life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Stewart, Rev. Darren Johnson and Rev. Scott Eanes officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 12:00 until 2:00 prior to the service while the family receives friends in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
