Dorothy Ollis Brawley, 88, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Abernathy Laurels in Newton, N.C. following a period of declining health. Mrs. Brawley was born February 15, 1923 in Newland, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Baxter Ollis and Maude Stamey Ollis. She attended Crossmore High School and on July 10, 1943, she married Robert W. Brawley, who preceded her in death on May 3, 2005. Mrs. Brawley was retired from Uniglass where she worked as a weaver and she was a member of Eufola Baptist Church. Mrs. Brawley enjoyed looking at pictures, especially family pictures, and she enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Brawley was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Brawley; seven brothers, Ray, Lee, Glenn, Herman, John, Guy, and Paul Ollis along with one sister, Flo Simmons. Mrs. Brawley is survived by a daughter-in-law, Shirley Deal Brawley of Statesville; one granddaughter, Lisa B. Crawford and her husband, special grandson-in-law, Todd of Statesville; one grandson, Steven Brawley (Foua) of Grafenoehr, Germany. She is also survived by two sisters, Tot Earley of Morganton, N.C. and Mary Coffey of Statesville. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Morgan Brawley, Elizabeth Van Vleet, and Alex Mortez. Funeral services for Mrs. Brawley will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Otis Johnson and Rev. Sherman Barlow officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 until 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Steven Brawley, Todd Crawford, Steve Staples, Tony Coffey, Mike Coffey, Roger Lippard and Eric Thiele.
