Mr. Donald Ray Estes, 77, of Statesville, died Wednesday May 30, 2018 at his home. Born in Iredell County on May 23, 1941, he was a son of the late Grady Jackson Estes and Pearlie Mae Sipes Estes. He was a member of South River Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and fishing tournaments, hunting and time with his family.
He worked at Kewaunee Scientific for 51 years. He was preceded in death by a son, William Randall Estes on November 12, 2017.
Survivors include his wife, the former Gwendolyn Bass Estes, two sons, Rodney Estes and Eric Estes (Kristene) all of Statesville, brothers: Harold Estes of Mooresville, Shorty Estes of Hiddenite, Hubert Estes of Mt. Ulla and Ernest Estes and Clifford Estes, both of Statesville. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Darlene Estes of Statesville. Additional survivors include grandchildren: Travis Estes (Jacqueline), Tara Estes, Rachel Cope, Daniel and Elijah Pope and great grandchildren: Shelby Estes, Jose Villalovos, Julianna Coppinger, Gabriella Coppinger, and Ben and John Cope.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 2, 2018 at South River Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
