Debra Jones (Ketchie) Smith

October 12, 1950 — February 18, 2017

Debra Ketchie Smith moved to her eternal home on Saturday February 18, 2017. Debra was born in Iredell County Oct 12, 1950 to Bill and Louise Ketchie who preceded her in death. Debra married Randall Lee Smith, who was the love of her life, in 1993. He preceded her in death in 2010.  She is survived by four sisters Linda K. Allmon, Nan K. Weatherman (Ronald), Pat K. Johnson (Tommy), Billie K. Furches, two sons Christopher Smith (Kristie), Ryan Smith (Kim), three grandchildren Nick Hartman, Noah Smith, Madeline Smith, eight nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a very dear friend Anita Riddle who was her “sidekick” forever.    Debra was a charter member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Statesville Senior High School in 1968, received her BS degree from Appalachian State University in 1972 and a Masters degree in Administration in 1976. She was an elementary school teacher in NC and SC for 35 years. She was a member of ABWA, and a past president of Iredell County Classroom Teachers Association. Debra was known to everyone as a “sweet sweet girl”. She was loved by all who knew her. Our many thanks go to The Gardens of Statesville, and the staff who very lovingly cared for her during her time there.  Our thanks also go to Statesville Dialysis and Dr. Willie Whitaker. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Forest Park Presbyterian Church Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Scott Jeffreys. Family will greet friends at the church after the service in the sanctuary. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney foundation or Forest Park Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
