Deborah Jeane Marsh

March 29, 1954 — January 25, 2023

Deborah “Debbie” Woodward Marsh was born on March 29, 1954, in Rogersville, TN to the late James Wilbur Woodward and Lolita Roberson Woodward.
She grew up in Soddy-Daisy, TN, but was very quick to point out that she was from the "Soddy" side of town. She graduated from Soddy- Daisy High School in 1972, and from the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing RN diploma program in 1975.
Debbie began her nursing career working in the labor and delivery department at Erlanger Hospital.
After moving to Salisbury, NC in the early 80s and taking several years off to raise her children, she returned to nursing and served in various healthcare settings over the remainder of her career-the prison system infirmary, urgent care, home health and long-term care. Nursing was more than a career to her. It was part of who she was. She loved taking care of people and her patients, especially those from home health and long-term care, were like family or her.
Hobbies and things she loved were “extreme crafting”- she never did it halfway and would have every color, shape and size of material needed to make whatever her current craft project had her interest. She also loved gardening and canning her vegetables and making jelly. She loved to cook for her family and friends and almost every place she worked she would bring in crockpots full of food to feed her coworkers.
She had the gift of hospitality and loved opening her home to friends and family. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she created Christmas memories for her family that were so magical they can never be topped.
The beach was her “happy place” but she would settle to be anywhere there was water. She loved bragging on her grandkids and even wore a shirt inviting you to ask about them. She didn’t watch a lot of sports on TV but was a big fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and could be seen out and about even a few months ago in her bright orange Tennessee Vols coat.
She was a woman of strong faith. No matter what struggles, circumstances, or illness that she went through, her faith was unwavering, and she never doubted Gods hand in the outcome. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to take on projects or help wherever there was a need. She loved praise and worship and when she sang and worshipped the Lord you knew she felt and believed every word she sang.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Woodward and Lolita Woodward. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Christy (Michael) Morefield of Lexington, Tara (Jamie) Kayali of Salisbury, Ashley Painter of Concord, Jenny (Julian) Almaraz of Concord, and Michael Painter of Salisbury; grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Emily, Jackson, and Carter Morefield of Lexington, Hannah and Lincoln Kayali of Salisbury, Owen Painter of Concord, Brandon, Addrianna, Lennox and Jensen Almaraz of Concord; brother Terry (Sally) Woodward of Chattanooga, TN A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 4th at 4pm at Destiny City Church, 2324 S. Main St (behind The Forum) in Salisbury, NC.
