Mr. David McKinnley Watt, 83, of Harmony, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice Hospice House. Mr. Watt was born June 13, 1927 in Stony Point, NC and was the son of the late Thomas A. Watt and Betsy Bailey Watt. He attended Stony Point High School before serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII as part of the Sea Bee's. In 1950, he was married to Marie M. Watt, who survives of the home. He was a truck driver for 45 years, then worked for United Merchants for 19 years and retired from Hunt Benfang in 1992. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Gary Watt of Statesville, one daughter, Cindy W. Webster of Statesville, three grandsons, Adam Watt, Michael Hines, Steven Hines, two brothers, Robert Watt, Thomas Watt and three sisters, Betty Watt, Nancy Wooten and Peggy McNeely. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad Watt in 1999,one brother, James Watt and two sisters, Annlee Poole and Frances Prevette. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William Wease officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
