Daniel Young

Mr. Daniel Richard Young, 64, of Statesville, entered his heavenly home Saturday, April 12, 2014. Mr. Young was born August 18, 1949 in Catawba County and was the son of the late Gomer Richard Young and Mary Moose Young. He was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School, class of 1969 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On March 14, 1970, he was married to Kathy Stewart Young, who survives of the home. He was a member of Fern Hill Baptist Church, an avid farmer and especially loved spending time with his three grandsons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Wendy Hensley (Teddy) of Statesville, Tracy Collins (Adrian) of Mooresville; one son, Richard Alan Young and fianc�, Dawn of Harmony, three grandsons, Jordan Hensley, Matthew Young, Nathan Hensley; three sisters, Barbara Holland (J.B.), Doris Cockrell (Paul), Mary "Cissy" VanDyke (Gordon) and one brother, Steve Young. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Young. A celebration of life funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Fern Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Chancee Carter and Rev. Tim Whitener officiating. Mr. Young will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be his three grandsons, Jordan Hensley, Matthew Young, Nathan Hensley, along with Billy Wayne Moose, Rodney Holland, Dennis Cockrell, Benjamin Danner and Ray Houston.
