After long, hard fought battles with heart disease, diabetes, and dementia, Creig Calvin Richards passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his residence. He was under the care of a wonderful Hospice team from Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County. No member of the team could have rendered more helpful, caring or compassionate care. Special thanks go also to Dr. Benjamin Dunlap for years of excellent care and to Dr. Naim Bouhussein. He also received quality care at the VA Clinic in Hickory, NC with Dr. Benjamin Reese as his Primary Care Physician. Creig was born in Harrisburg, PA on September 10, 1939 to James C. and Ruth G. Richards. He lived most of his life in Charlotte and Statesville. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven plus years, Brenda M. Richards. Also surviving are a son, Michael C. Richards (Jonna); two special granddaughters, Jordan and Raegan; two nephews, Mark A. Bell and Timothy C. Bell. In addition, two beloved dogs, Patches and Maggie. Before retiring, Creig was employed by Tingue-Brown and Co. for thirty-two plus years. While working, he was a member of NAILM and was privileged to receive a total of seven Allied Tradesman of the Year Awards. He received four awards from the North Carolina Chapter, two from the South Carolina Chapter, and one National Award. Creig was an Ancient, Free, and Accepted Mason, having belonged to Charles M. Setzer Lodge in Charlotte, Oasis Temple in Charlotte, and Winston-Salem Scottish Rite. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, hunting and fishing and was an excellent marksman. His interest also included anything related to history or aviation. He had a deep love of music; especially the Big Band Era. Creig had a cheerful, positive, outgoing personality and never spoke unkindly of others. His passing is a great loss to family and friends. Honoring Creig’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A private burial will be at a later time.
