Cpl. William “Bill” David Wood, 51, of Statesville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
Bill was born in Cuyahoga County, OH on February 3, 1967 and was the son of the late Robert William Wood and Gara Ann Bost Wood. He was a graduate of Harry P. Harding High School. Bill served his country with the Navy Reserves and on August 18, 2007 he married Roxanne Starnes Wood, who survives.
Bill was employed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years and most recently as a detention officer.
Bill loved his country and loved serving his community with the sheriffs dept. His dedication to both also led him to serve the fallen veterans and families of the U.S. Military by being a member of the Patriot Guard Rider and Tribute To The Troops where he served as a board member and ride captain.
Bill was a movie and music geek and loved Star Wars and Star Trek. He was also considered a computer geek. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on motorcycles. Bill loved riding with his fellow riders, but nothing compared to riding motorcycles with his wife Roxanne. This was their “alone time”. His love for life and friends has left an impact on many and he will be missed by all who knew him. First and foremost, he was a husband and father.
In addition to his wife Roxanne, he is survived by one son, William Wood, four daughters, Michelle Gentry (Jonathan), Nicole Hagan, Jerica Wood and Savannah Martin (Josh). He is also survived by five grandchildren, James, Eliza, and Auron Jones and Sophia and Samuel Martin. Four brothers, Cary Clay (Suzanne), Jeffrey Clay (Annette), J.J. Foley (Christine) and Tim Starnes (Patty) three sisters, Joy and Andrea Kotulak, and Jeanette Hastings, number of nieces, nephews and one aunt also survive.
