Mrs. Cleo Sigmon Pope, 100, of Statesville, died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County on January 24, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Henry Sigmon and Katie Wilkerson Sigmon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Allen Pope and her second husband, Donald Lackey along with six brothers. Mrs. Pope was retired from textiles and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School and enjoyed cooking, gardening and flowers. She was a graduate of Sharon High School. Survivors include a son, Freddy Pope (Katie) of Statesville, a granddaughter, Julie Pope Villeneuve of Linville, N.C., great grandchildren: Cortney Bougher, Judge Hughes and Noah Hughes and a great great grandson, Joshua Bougher. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Sigmon and Carolyn Sigmon Compton. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, step children and step grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Bame officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service and burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
