Mr. Clennon J. Lewis, 83, of Harmony, passed away Thursday evening, October 23, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lewis was born August 13, 1931, in Bay St. Louis, MS. and was the son of the late Charles Dolphus Lewis and Emilda Pierre Lewis. He was married to Margie Campbell Lewis who preceded him in death on February 1, 2013 and on December 28, 2013, he married Linda Stafford Lewis, who survives. He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Army in both Korea and Vietnam. He retired following 20 years of service as a Sgt. First Class and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked at Fiber Industries as a truck driver. Mr. Lewis was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday school class and he was a volunteer at Iredell Memorial Hospital for 10 years. Mr. Lewis loved his church, fishing, gardening, his cats, and watching birds. He was especially fond of a young man at his church, Will Clontz. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Joseph Lewis and a brother, Alvin Lewis Along with his wife, Linda, Mr. Lewis is survived by two sons, Johnnie Lewis of Harmony and Rick Lewis (Margaret), one granddaughter, Bridgett Lippard (Danny) and three grandsons, Colby Lewis, Tyler Lewis, and Wesley Lewis (Kimberly), along with two great-grandsons, Cole Lippard and Dylan Lewis, all of Statesville. He is also survived by four step-children, Joy McCoy and Kathy Garnick, both of Statesville, Gene Broyles of Florida, and Cindy Hefner of Taylorsville along with three sisters, Dorothy Bielko (John), Charlene McFarland, and Kathryn Leagin and one brother, Robert Lewis. Nine step-grandchildren and eleven step-great grandchildren also survive. � Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, October 27, 2014, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev Ervel Jones officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
