Clara “Kat” Bason Sechrist, 95, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at her residence. She was born on July 5, 1921 in Alamance County to the late Gurney B. and Floy Wood Bason. Mrs. Sechrist was a graduate of Asheboro Business College and was married to Marvin Sechrist who preceded her in death in 1986. She worked for years as the office manager of Bell and Howard Chevrolet and later in the family business, Corner Hutch Furniture of Statesville before her retirement. Mrs. Sechrist was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. Along with her parents and husband, Marvin, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Younts, Lucy Mae Trollinger, and four brothers, Ervin Bason, Alton Bason, Lynn Bason, and Grover “G.B.” Bason. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Barry Sechrist (Shirley) of Statesville; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Sechrist Lewis (Mark) of Raleigh; two grandsons, Rob Sechrist (Amy) of Statesville and Rusty Arrington (Jenny) of Troutman; three great grandsons, Zach Lewis of Raleigh, Cade Sechrist of Statesville, and Dalton Short of Winston; a great granddaughter, Kileigh Sechrist of Statesville; and the family dog, Maggie. And a special thanks to Beverly Wright, a family sister-in-law, for her love and care to Mrs. Sechrist. Funeral services for Mrs. Sechrist will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. Entombment will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm in the church fellowship hall prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Robert Sechrist, Cade Sechrist, Mark Lewis, Rusty Arrington, Jeff Luxon, and Tommy Nesbit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
