Charles Wenton Souther, 79, of Statesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Maple Leaf Healthcare.
Mr. Souther was born in Wilkes County on March 14, 1940 to the late Wenton Belo Souther and Ora Nichols Souther. He was a graduate Statesville High School class of ’58.
Mr. Souther served his country proudly with the U.S. Air Force. He worked in industrial maintenance for many years with Craftmaster Furniture before retiring with Hunt Mfg. Mr. Souther was a member of Linneys Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Souther was a hard-working man and instilled his work ethic in his son, Kevin. Together he and Kevin primed tobacco in the early years along with working on the family farm together. He also enjoyed woodworking. Their life was not always work. Mr. Souther enjoyed playing golf. He participated in the annual Souther Family Golf Tournament for several years and he played golf regularly with the seniors at Lakewood Golf Club. Nothing compared to the time he spent playing golf with his son. They played in the annual father/son golf tournament for 15 consecutive years. Mr. Souther was a great father and grandfather and his absence will be felt by his family and friends alike.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Koby Souther.
Left to cherish his memory is his only son Charles Kevin Souther (Kimberly) of Statesville and two grandchildren, Kyle Souther (Sarah) of Hickory and Kamie Souther of Statesville. He is also survived by a brother, J.N. “Butch” Souther of Statesville.
Graveside funeral services honoring the life of Charles Souther will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2019 at Linneys Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 6160 Sulpher Springs Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636, with Joey Campbell officiating.
