Mr. Charles Clay McDaniels, 76, of Olin, N.C. passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at his residence. Mr. McDaniels was born October 11, 1934 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Franklin S. McDaniels and Matilda Jenkins McDaniels. He attended Iredell County Schools and on October 1, 1955, he married Betty Campbell McDaniels, who survives of the home. Mr. McDaniels was a member of Welcome Inn Pentecostal Church and he was self employed as a carpenter. Mr. McDaniels was the founder of the Southern Gospel group, The McDaniels Family in 1955. Mr. McDaniels was preceded in death by a brother, Dee McDaniels. In addition to his wife, Mr. McDaniels is also survived by four sons, Roger McDaniels (Susan of Union Grove, Tony McDaniels (Lori) and Michael McDaniels (Donna), both of Mooresville, and Bobby McDaniels (Debbie) of Mocksville, along with one daughter, Cathy McDaniels (Thomas) of Taylorsville. He is also survived by three brothers, Sylvester and Leonard McDaniels of Statesville, and Lugene McDaniels of Troutman. He is further survived by four sisters, Lorine Bustle of Statesville, Irene Anderson, Virginia Eades, and Margie Shepherd (Bob), all of Troutman, and 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren along with his four legged companion, Mitzi. Funeral services for Mr. McDaniels will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Fairview Baptist Church with Pastors Donnie Robinette, Ray Kiser, and Jeff Goudelock officiating. Burial will follow in New Life Community Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday evening 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Fairview Baptist Church. The family will assemble at other times at the home of Roger McDaniels, 455 Sloans Mill Road, Olin, N.C. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com/obituaries .
