Mr. Charles Crawford Lynn, 93, of Statesville, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 following several years of declining health. He was born on April 23. 1922 at his home place on Old Mocksville Road and was a son of the late John Macon Lynn and Margaret Marianne Crawford Lynn. He graduated from Cool Spring High School and was employed by J C Steele & Sons for over 45 years, starting in the foundry and later working as purchasing agent for the company. He served as a crew chief and mechanic in the U. S. Army Air Corp. during WW II from 1943 to 1945, and was a member of the 449th Bomb Group, the Flying Horsemen, stationed at Grottaglie, Italy. On April 10, 1948 he married Millicent J. Hoskins. The celebrated 57 years together before her death in 2005. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eugenia Lynn Shuffler. Charles and Millie were active for many years in Democratic Party politics, and he served as secretary for the Iredell County Board Of Elections for a term. He also was a former member of the Iredell County Historic Commission. He was a lifelong reader, and self-taught in many subjects. He could repair almost anything. He spent time with his daughter growing up, and later delighted in his grandchildren. He loved his family deeply. He is survived by his daughter, Pattie Templeton, and her husband, Barry of Statesville, granddaughters: Katie Mayr of Huntersville, and her husband, Uli, Lesley Keith, and her husband, Mark of DeWitt, MI, grandson, Robert Peterson, and his wife, Maggie, of Cary, great grandsons Torren Mayr, Lee Peterson, Henry Keith and great granddaughters, Amelia Peterson and Ivy Lynn Keith. Mr. Lynn was blessed to have wonderful caregivers Hollace Scanlan, Jackie Robbins, and Marge Miller in his home, and later a host of caring staff members (all his angels, and several of them his steady girlfriends) at Brookdale Peachtree. In his final months the staff of Hospice Of Iredell gave him tender, loving care and saw to his every need up to his last moments. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Frank Stewart on Sunday, March 13 at 3:00 P.M. at Bethany Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family welcomes a visit from friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
