Charles Warren Dobson, 79, of Statesville, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home. He was born in Winston-Salem on October 29, 1939 and was the son of the late Hubert Warren Dobson and Hazel Robbins Dobson. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and he attended Mitchell College.
Mr. Dobson in the N.C. National Guard, U.S. Air Force and retired from the U.S. Army in 1982 following a total of 23 years’ service. He was a Vietnam veteran and was decorated with two Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals with two battle stars, National Defense Medal and six good conduct medals. From 1975 through 1977, he was the private driver for 5 Star General Omar Bradley.
In 1980, Mr. Dobson was married to Else Simon Dobson who preceded him in death.
Mr. Dobson worked as HVAC mechanic for the N.C. Department of Corrections, retiring in June 2000. He was last employed by Piedmont Health Services where he worked as a courier. Mr. Dobson was a life member of the VFW, a master mason with Lodge 217 of Morganton, and a 32o Scottish Rite with the temple in Charlotte.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Dobson and one sister, Shirley Norris.
Left to cherish his memory is one sister, Brenda G. Dobson of Statesville, a step-daughter, Uschi Roessler of Germany, sister-in-law, Brenda S. Dobson of Statesville, one niece, Lisa Dobson Johnson of Catawba and one nephew, Thomas Dobson, Jr. of Statesville.
A graveside funeral service with full military rites honoring the life of Charles Dobson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 28 in Oakwood Cemetery.
