Charles E. Cawthon, 80, of Statesville, passed away on June 1, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House. He was born April 5, 1931 in Eldorado, Illinois, and was the son of the late D.W. and Julia Belt Cawthon. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and attended Lockyear's Business School. He was employed by the Wabash, Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern Railroads and retired after 30 years of service. After moving to North Carolina, he was employed at Fox Den Country Club for the last 15 years and was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, G. Paul Cawthon. Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Clara Joy "Daisy"; his daughter, Paula of Statesville; a sister, Betty Graham (Billy) of St. Charles, Missouri; a brother, Gary Cawthon (Lynda) of Brandenburg, Kentucky; a sister-in-law Dolores Cawthon of Norway, Maine; four nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville with Pastor Kyle Goodman officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery columbarium at a later date. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4, 2011, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home of Statesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or Concord Presbyterian Church, 3867 Taylorsville Highway, Statesville, NC 28625. � Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com/obituaries .
