Carolyn Gilliam Warlick (with photo) Nancy Carolyn Snipes Gilliam Warlick, 84, formally of Statesville, passed away peacefully Monday, August 10, 2015 at Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem. She was born on August 20, 1930 in Cameron, N.C. to the late Alfred Marshall Snipes Sr. and Bessie McLaurin Snipes. Carolyn was a graduate of Capital Hill High School in Oklahoma City, Ok. and Hills Business Institute at the University of Georgia. She was married to Thomas D. Gilliam, Jr. on March 5, 1955 who preceded her in death on November 29, 1990. She later married William “Bill” C. Warlick, Sr. on December 15, 2000, who also preceded her death on September 23, 2004. She was a Bridal Consultant at Kerr’s in Oklahoma City, OK, was a Representative for the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce, and retired from the Iredell Eye Clinic in Statesville. She served on the Administrative Board and Altar Guild at Broad Street United Methodist Church until she moved her membership to First Presbyterian Church where she also served on the Altar Guild. She was active in her community serving as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Iredell Public Library, Girl Scout Leader, and was a member of the Grace Anderson Garden Club and the N.C. Symphony Committee. Along with her parents and husbands, Tom and Bill, she was also preceded in death by siblings Polly Hafling, Haywood Snipes, Mildred Snipes, Marjorie Snipes, Claire Lyons, Mary Delozier, Grace Snyder, Faye Clodfelter, Kitty Collier and son-in-law, DG Cockrell. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Gwyn C. Gilliam of Roanoke, VA, Lisa G. Jennings (Terry) of Hickory, NC, and Elizabeth “Holly” Gilliam of Winston-Salem, NC; a grandson, Josh C. Jennings (Betsy) of Lafayett, CO.; a granddaughter, Laurin E. Jennings of Boulder, CO.; a brother, Al M. Snipes, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and the children and grandchildren of Bill Warlick. A Memorial Service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steven Scott and Rev. Grant Sharp officiating. There will be a private family burial held in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church immediately following the service. There will also be a Memorial Service held 11:00 AM Friday, August 21, 2015 in Robinson Hall at Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem with Rev. Bert Sanders, Rev. Douglas Suggs and Rev. Craig Ford officiating. “We would like to thank the dedicated “artist”, caretakers, and staff at Arbor Acres who so lovingly cared for Mother during the last years of her life.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O.
