Mrs. Carol Lou Summerfield McCaskill, 87, of Apex, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Apex. Born in Baltimore Maryland on March 23, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Louis Summerfield and Geraldine Rae Cohen Summerfield.
Born in Baltimore and grew up in Wilson, NC Carol graduated from American University in 1952 with a BA in Journalism. She was a resident of Tarboro, N.C. prior to moving to Palm Beach, Florida. She worte for the local newspaper. She served as President of the Tarboro Women’s Club and the Pilot Club International. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She became a Certified Bridge Director of ACBL in 1967 and Life Master in 1971. Carol and her husband Norman were Cruise Directors for Bridge from 1981 to 1997 teaching bridge and visited all seven continents. She and her husband Norman moved to Chapel Hill in 1993, where they continued to share a great passion and was a great supporter of UNC Tarheel Athletics.
Survivors include her sons, Steven Adler and his wife, Joyce of Apex, and Phillip Adler and his wife, Tammy of Montesano, Washington, a daughter, Esther Votino and her husband, Jim of Lake Park, Florida, grandchildren: David Adler of Seattle, Washington, Alex Polirer and her husband, Daniel and Alicia Peregory and her husband, Walter of Port St. Lucy, Florida along with 4 great grandchildren she adored. Also surviving is her sister, Rona Gordon of Statesville, NC.
Graveside Services are scheduled for 11:00 Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rabbi Michael Shields officiating. Condolences may be sent online to the family to
