Calvin James Conrad, 77, a resident of Spring Arbor Assisted Living Facility in Thomasville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center. He was born November 4, 1945, the only child of Laster James and Grace Everhart Conrad. He grew up on Lower Lake Road in Thomasville and graduated from East Davidson High School in 1964. Calvin graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College and served in the US Navy, attending flight training school in Pensacola, Florida. He was somewhat adventurous in his younger years, learning to fly airplanes, parachuting, and riding motorcycles. He was an avid reader and loved learning to play different musical instruments. Calvin retired from Duracell Battery Company in Lexington, NC in 2004.
On April 10, 1971, Calvin married Martha Lee Peninger of Lexington. Also surviving him are their two daughters, Rachel Conrad Sadler (Tim) and Rebekah Suzanne Conrad. Calvin has two beloved grandsons, Andrew and Austin Sadler. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Connie P. Garner (Tim) and Donna P. Tate (Wayne) and their children.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Thomasville where Calvin has been a lifelong member. The family will greet family and friends at the church beginning at 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial for Calvin will follow at Emanuel Reformed Church cemetery on Emanuel Church Road in Thomasville.
