Burnie Ray Tyson, age 59, of Thomasville, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Hospice of Davidson County. Born on August 11, 1963, in Guilford County, NC, he was the son of the late Phillip Tyson and Mary McCray Tyson.
Burnie was a fun, energetic, and loving man who cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid football fan who loved his Minnesota Vikings and was a dedicated fan of Wake Forest Athletics. Burnie loved going to the beach with his family and had a passion for working in his yard.
In addition to his parents, Phillip and Mary Tyson, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Doug and Flip. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 25 years, Janet Batten Tyson; his children, Paris Hardin, Megan Tyson, Mario McMillian, Devante Tyson and Steadman Tyson; his stepchildren, Tammy Mashburn, Michelle Berry (Scott), and Michael Embry; over 20 beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary, Joanne, and Barbara; his brothers, Butch, Heavy, and Larry; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Wellspring Community Church with Pastor Lenix Ramos officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm.
Mr. Tyson will lie in state from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, and on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Nicholson Funerals & Cremations, Thomasville Chapel.
