Brenda Ann Coon

August 9, 1942 — February 13, 2025

Lexington

Brenda Ann Coon passed away peacefully, just before dawn on February 13, 2025, at her home in Lexington, NC after a two-year illness. She looked forward to being reunited with her father, David Hoke Coon, Sr., her mother, Maudine Wilson Coon and her beloved brothers, David Hoke Coon, Jr., James Wallace Coon and Robert Dean Coon (Diz).

Brenda was a lifelong resident of Bessemer City, NC. After graduating from Gardner Webb University, she began her career as an educator. She taught at South Gastonia Elementary School for thirty years.

A devoted daughter, sister and aunt, Brenda was a caregiver for both parents during their illnesses. Her family was paramount in her life—she enjoyed recounting memories and telling stories about her father’s “Filling Station” and her mother’s work at the “Lunch Room.” She especially loved telling stories about Aunt Dark (Dorcas Wilson.)

Thanks to all Brenda’s friends and Rev. Olin Byrum, III, her pastor at First Baptist Church Bessemer City, NC. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Hospice of Davidson County— especially Magen.

Memorials to: First Baptist Church Bessemer City, NC: PO Box 397, Bessemer City NC, 28016.
