Brady Howard Johnson, 76, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was a strong Christian man, and was ready to go. Mr. Johnson was born July 8, 1934 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Mrs. Elsie Mayberry Johnson Moose. He attended Statesville schools and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On April 11, 1959, he was married to Jane Jordan Johnson, who survives. He was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was a former City of Statesville police officer and also served on the Iredell County Sheriff's Department. He was a self employed entrepreneur. He was the owner of Brady's Coin Shop, formerly operated Womack's, Brady's, and Friendly Family Restaurant. He also dealt in cars and real estate. Mr. Johnson was a positive thinker, enjoyed people, and started the Smiley Face Club. Mr. Johnson was a member of Statesville Masonic Lodge #27 and the Statesville Shrine Club. In addition to his wife, Jane Jordan Johnson, Mr. Johnson is survived by two sons, Nelson Brady Johnson and wife Susan of Raleigh, N.C. and Scott Howard Johnson and wife Tina of Statesville; four grandchildren, Brian and Sarah Johnson of Raleigh, N.C. and Stephanie Hairyes and Matthew Johnson of Statesville; three brothers, Harold Johnson, Clyde Luther Johnson and wife Sue, and C.O. "Jap" Johnson and wife Carol, all of Statesville. A sister, Louise Johnson preceded him in death.Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. William Wease officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
