Bradford "Brad" Turner Boyd, Jr.

November 14, 1926 — May 5, 2018

Bradford (Brad) Turner Boyd, Jr., 91, of Statesville, passed away at Gordon Hospice House surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, May 5, 2018.  He was born November 14, 1926 in Pitt County, NC to the late Bradford Turner Boyd and Lola Ethel Boyd.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton E. Boyd. He was a member of Front Street Baptist Church.

Brad was a graduate of Chowan High School in Tyner, NC and Louisburg College in Louisburg, NC.  He worked at Southern Bell for 28.5 years. He served in World War II, Korean War, and National Guard.  He helped start the fire department in Cordova, NC and volunteered at West Iredell Fire Department.  For a short time, he was a policeman in Rockingham, NC.  Brad had served as a member of West Iredell Lions Club and West Iredell Ruritans.  He was a current member of the American Legion.  After retirement, Brad drove for Christian Tours.  Brad and Joyce both volunteered at Hospice. In addition to enjoying time with family, they enjoyed square dancing and camping for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Knox Boyd, sons Bradford Boyd, III (Melissa) of Statesville, Tony R. Boyd (Phoebe) of Troutman, and Rodney K. Boyd of Statesville, two grandchildren Lindsay B. Phillips (John) of Statesville and Tiffany Boyd Pigg (Joe) of Harrisburg. Four great-grandchildren, Cooper and Lena Phillips of Statesville, Taylor and Avery Pigg of Harrisburg.  He is also survived by a sister Zelma T. Boyd of Greenville, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 pm Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Front Street Baptist Church, Statesville, with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00pm.  Burial with military rites provided by American Legion Post 65 will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County and the loving and compassionate staff at Gordon Hospice House. In addition, the family is grateful for the care provided by his special caregivers Billie Holbrook and Blanche Geter.
