Bonzie Speaks Alexander, 96, went home to be with her Lord on March 9, 2015. She had been recovering from an acute illness and most recently under the care of Heartland Hospice of Hampton, Virginia as well as her caregivers at the home. Born Bonzie Lorene Speaks on January 8, 1919 to Isom Turner and Lilia Edwards Speaks, she grew from a playful little girl into a beautiful and vibrant young woman that lived her life serving others. In 1942 she was married to Lester Clyde Alexander. Les and Bonzie were happily married for almost 30 years before Les lost his battle with cancer in 1971. They had one son, Joseph Speaks Alexander. Bonzie worked for Carnation Milk where she was recognized for her many contributions to the success and growth of the company during her 38 year career. She retired in 1986. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years where she taught children and served in numerous areas of ministry. Bonzie’s love for Jesus was evident by her sweet smile and never ending love for others. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and kindness that will last for generations to come. Bonzie is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, husband and son. She is survived by her brothers Gayle Speaks of Durham, North Carolina and Harry Speaks of Salisbury, North Carolina.
