Robert "Bob" Young Clendenin, 90, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Clendenin was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Rowan County and was the son of the late William Samuel Clendenin and Mary "Mamie" Young Carson Clendenin. He attended Rowan County Schools and was a member of Third Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder on Session. He was retired from the Salisbury Post and formerly worked with the Statesville Record & Landmark. Following his retirement, Bob went to work for Statesville Chair. Mr. Clendenin is survived by his first wife, Janie Compton Kellam; one son, Spencer Lee Clendenin (Sherri) of Bahama, NC, one step-son, Robert T. Lomax (Peggy) of Vilonia, AR, two daughter-in-laws, Kate M. Clendenin of Statesville, Nancy B. Clendenin of Cleveland, eight grandchildren, Jeffery Alan Clendenin (Sharon) of Statesville, Donald Neal Clendenin (Monica) of Harrisburg, Karen Yvette Patterson (Joel) of Mooresville, Teresa Ann Goodin (Mark) of Statesville, Brian Scot Clendenin of Cleveland, Terry Lee Clendenin (Crystal) of Statesville, Robert Paul Clendenin (Mary) of Statesville, Brooke C. Blalock (Kevin), 16 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Ruth Walker Clendenin; two sons, Robert Neal Clendenin, Steven Young Clendenin and seven siblings, Loyce C. Kinder, Mary Belle Clendenin, Samuel Knox Clendenin, James Houston Clendenin, Walter B. Clendenin, Woodrow Clendenin and Ray Carson Clendenin. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Third Creek Presbyterian Church with Pastor Donald McCann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at other times at the home of Kate Clendenin, 151 Oak Forest Dr., Statesville. Active pallbearers will be Jeffery, Donald, Brian, Terry and Paul Clendenin, Joel Patterson, Mark Goodin and Kevin Blalock.
