Mr. Billy Frank Gaither, 89, of Harmony passed away on November 16th, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on Feb 6th, 1929, he was the son of the late Burl Samuel Gaither and Myrtle Tomlinson Gaither. He was a graduate of Harmony High School class of 1948. After graduating, he served as a Staff Sgt. in the US Air Force during the Korean War until June of 1952. After serving he met and later married Margaret Lowe Gaither on August, 21st 1958 who survives.
Bill spent most of his career working in underground utility construction throughout the Carolinas, and later retired with Buds Oil Company in Harmony. After retirement, he delivered trailers for LB’s Trailer Sales when needed, and made sure the morning coffee was on at the Harmony Cafe. He enjoyed being around his family and sharing a turtle stew with his friends. He was a faithful and lifelong member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He retired after 20 years of service with the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department and was also a member of North Iredell American Legion Post 113.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his sisters Peggy Gaither Sloan, Virginia Gaither Hinson, and his twin sister Betty Gaither Wallace.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Margaret Lowe Gaither. Three sons; Marty Gaither (Patricia), Scotty Gaither (Paige), and Eddie Gaither (Brooke), all of Harmony. Grandchildren; Alivia Gaither, Caden Gaither, Cole Saunders, Bailey Saunders, Daniel Gaither, and Megyn Payge Gaither. Brother in law; Hubert Hinson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm Sunday November 18, at Harmony United Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Lakey, Don Farris and Randy Goodin officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2 to 3pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Harmony Community Cemetery.
