Billy Garner Burns, 81, of Statesville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 01, 2019 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 4, 1937 in Catawba County to the late Ernest Reeves Burns and Annie Miller Burns.
Billy was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School and was married to Rosalie Kennedy Burns who preceded him in death on August 26, 2015. They shared over 59 years of marriage before her passing. He was retired from Hunt Manufacturing after many years of service and was a member of Gloryland Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Terry Moore (Bill); two grandchildren, Taylor Moore (Haley) and Emily Coggins (Chris); three precious great grandchildren, Landon and Brantley Moore, and Warren Coggins. He is also survived by one sister, Nancy Orbison (James), and a brother-in-law, Leroy Kennedy (Kathy). Billy was blessed with many special nieces and nephews that he always enjoyed visiting with, especially on Sunday afternoons.
Billy was a person that you enjoyed being around. He had the gift of being able to talk to anyone. If you knew Billy Burns, you knew that he had a pet goat, “Dale,” that he loved for many years. His cat, “Tom,” was his faithful companion that always lifted his spirits. Although his health prohibited him, he loved camping, fishing, woodworking, and hunting for treasures at flea markets. He also loved his home and those in it.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, February 4, 2019 at Gloryland Baptist Church, 613 Westminster Drive, Statesville with Pastor Blaine Keaton and Rev. Dr. J. B. Parker, Jr officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
