Bill Ray Wood

Billy Ray Wood, 81, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016.  He was born in Yadkin County on March 27, 1935 to the late Harvey Howard Wood and Callie Mickle Wood. Mr. Wood attended Yadkin County Schools and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was married to Lala Hall Wood, who preceded him in death.  He was self-employed as owner/operator of North Iredell Grocery and Service Station before his retirement.  Mr. Wood enjoyed his gardening, riding his motorcycle in his earlier years, CB talking, watching TV, and spending time with his grandsons. Along with his parents and wife, Lala, he was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Denise Wood; two sons, Howard A. Wood and Jeffrey R. Wood; four grandsons, Tyler, Gary, Alex, and Elijah Wood; one brother, A.L. Wood, and one sister, Pauline W. Eades. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Darren Johnson and Rev. Otis Johnson officiating.  Mr. Wood will lie in state at Nicholson Funeral Home until the funeral hour.
